Bromhidrosis

WHAT IS BROMHIDROSIS?

Bromhidrosis is the medical term for severe body odour or malodourous sweating.

It is caused by increased moisture levels which create the perfect environment for bacterial growth. The bacteria that build on our skin when we sweat create enzymes that break down the lipids in sweat. This action creates by-products – such as Butyric Acid – which give off the unpleasant odour associated with sweating and body odours.

In most cases, Bromhidrosis is present in either or both underarms, but it can also be present in the groin or on the feet. Regular washing helps of course, but sufferers of Bromhidrosis will find that an odour still persists, regardless of showering, washing and maintaining good personal hygiene.

There are many factors that can cause Bromhidrosis or alter a person’s odour, including diet, lifestyle and diseases.
On occasion, a sweat gland can become infected, and this can create a strong body odour. In this instance, the infection should be inspected and treated by your doctor.

TREATING BROMHIDROSIS

Standard soaps, gels and washes are unable to lift and remove the odour-causing bacteria, so the skin will never really reach a clean state by their use alone. Further sweating only compounds the problem.

Used daily, Perspi-Guard Body Wash – with its active ingredient Triclosan – can totally eradicate the odour-causing bacteria that builds up on the skin. When used in conjunction with Perspi-Guard Maximum Strength Antiperspirant – available separately or together in our Sweat Defence System dual pack – the skin will remain dry and odour-free for up to 5 days.
